Are you also going to teach her that the word for "bathroom" is really "puppy?"

Best. Linguistics. Experiment. Evar.

Also, the reason (well, one of many) I won't have kids. Too tempting.

if she doesn't like it, you could always just call her Eddy. or, failing that, by her middle name, Malificent.

No you don't. But I do, now.

Prounounced "Ed"? Or is that a typo and it's "Eddie"? See, that's hot.

I think she wont care as a youngster, then teased mercilessly in school and grow to hate it, then appreciate the diversity and uniqueness of her name as she grows older -- because by that time she'll be a DARNED DIRTY HIPPIE. Who doesn't like her mom in the least.

So, no, you shouldn't name her that -- give her a chance to be crushed by life on her own merits.

Holly Hunter is named "Ed" in Raising Arizona. I don't see why not.

That makes me think of that show "sisters", where all four women had boy's names. I thought that was a dumb gimmick.

I think you could name her Edna or Edwina and call her Eddie. If you call the kid "Eddie" from day one it will stick, but if she really hates it, this gives her the choice of having a woman's name.

I loved having little license plates, bears and other assorted junk with my name on it. It really was so cool. She will always have the "boys" version, which I guess is fine, but... but... I don't know. I think she'll want the pencil holder with the ballet shoes instead of the basketball sometimes.

Who says lil' Eddie won't play basketball? She could be a very good basketball player, but if Washu named her a girl name, she'd have to settle for the ballet slippers.
