Okay, so you know how those cops in London shot that dude? I'm confused.

I thought cops in England didn't carry guns. Did this change at some point? The article would mention if they were like a special security team or something, right?

Also I hope they end up telling us that yes this dude did most definitely have a bomb, cuz otherwise, man, shooting a guy five times in front of a bunch of people: yikes. Scary.

Also also, what the fuck is up with extending the Patriot Act until INFINITY??? Jesus.

Cops have been carrying guns in London for about a decade, I think; it started in response to more criminals having them.

PATRIOT ACT INFINITY +1!

Ah, okay. I guess I figured that was the deal, no one bothered to tell me.

Can we still call them Bobbies? None of the article called them Bobbies.

Yeah, they carry guns now...

I'm making a big assumption that he had a bomb, but if he did, thatis why I have no problem with cops searching my bag.

It's just a sad fact of life that we have to put up with this.

Right, I mean, boviously we don't have all the information they have. This could turn out to be a great thing or a really fucking scary thing, but we won't know which it is for a while.

Yeah, I'm not sure which case I'm hoping for, but the more I read about it, the more it looks like something fishy.

Dude was wearing some sort of padded winter jacket in the middle of summer?

Tha-a-a-a-at's just in the House, the damn Patriot Act extension. Those dumb fuckers never vote no on nothing. Chances are it'll get murdered in the Senate.

I don't even know WHY we HAVE a bicameral legislation anymore. Reps are dicks.

Oh! I thought it passed the Senate yesterday, and the House this morning.

Also, I don't know what "bicameral" means, but it sounds dirty.

camera means chamber or room in latin, so bicameral means "split chamber".

God I love wikipedia.
It was set up that way to insure that thre was a balance between larger and smaller states, as the lower house is based on population, and the upper house is 2 Senators for each state. Good articles.

I can't believe you had to go to Wikipedia for that. Didn't they have Social Studies in school back when you were a kid?

My sister's sister-in-law is a cop in England and had to take target training as part of becoming one. I think that some of them carry guns, but a good portion of them don't.

I hate GW Bush and the Patriot Act. I think the whole thing is evil.

I live in England.
Beat cops as a general rule here do not carry guns. Some do but it is under special circumstances. The rumor is that since the officers were plain-clothed and carrying a weapon that they were a special forces unit of some sort.

Police are still called bobbies, but it is more of a slang, so you are unlikely to see the term used in the news.

I hope they all say "ello, ello, ello" and "what's all this then" in that Python-esque tone.. Yay - comic stereotypes!
