I am seriously the happiest girl in the world. I cannot imagine what I would need to make this lineup better. Oh wait, Les Claypool. But that's it! Oh wait and the Polyphonic Spree. But that's it! Oh wait Particle. But there are more announcements to come! So there!

Can you imagine if I am tripping whilst seeing Elvis? Can you imagine if I'm rolling?? I think I'd rush the stage.

Like, Beck, Radiohead, and Elvis Costello are three of my top five artists. Fourth is They Might Be Giants and the fifth one rotates.

This shit is going to sell out like fucking crazy.
Feb. 1st, 2006 01:58 pm (UTC)
Seriously though you guys, The Neville Brothers? Seriously?
Feb. 1st, 2006 02:38 pm (UTC)
That was exactly the lineup I was fearing. Just good enough to make me want to go, not quite good enough to justify the time and expense. When do we need to purchase tickets by?
Feb. 1st, 2006 02:42 pm (UTC)
Tickets go on sale Feb. 11th. You've got a week and a half to make a decision. Hopefully they'll announce more artists before then, though this IS a big lineup ...

Wait, so, no email, but you can LiveJournal at work? This is useful information.
Feb. 1st, 2006 03:59 pm (UTC)
Yeah, I guess technically you're more likely to reach me through an LJ post than an e-mail. That's retarded.

Also, where's the hip hop? No Roots? No J5? Man.
Feb. 1st, 2006 07:07 pm (UTC)
SERIOUSLY. i am once again underwhelmed.
Feb. 1st, 2006 08:02 pm (UTC)
...But not surprised, right?
Feb. 1st, 2006 09:10 pm (UTC)
no, i guess not. but the Vegoose lineup was so much more diverse, i guess i was just hoping to be pleasantly surprised.
Feb. 1st, 2006 03:40 pm (UTC)
That is a really good lineup. God I need to sell some fucking loans.
Feb. 1st, 2006 04:10 pm (UTC)
Obviously, I'm crazy hype on the lineup that I'm seeing. That said, am I wrong in feeling a tad down that as of right now because there is no Les... there is no Particle... there is no Mars Volta.

While I'd love for them to be there... it really doesn't matter because Radiohead and Beck are more than enough to get me there!
Feb. 1st, 2006 06:36 pm (UTC)
pray for updates
you are not wrong in feeling down. i can't say i'm as excited as kerry is. while radiohead, beck, elvis, etc. are awes...i can't help but feel sad about the lack of les, trey, dave, bill laswell, karsh kale, polyphonic spree, particle, string cheese, disco biscuits, j5, and the roots. i'm sure there are some others that i'm not even thinking of right now. i do feel good about soulive, rusted root, matisyahu, g. love, and phil lesh. one time when i go to bonnaroo i would like there to be ONE of my top bands. is that so much to ask? meanwhile, kerry has three. this means i'm going to listen to nothing but radiohea and beck for the next 5 months. don't mistake me bing pissed off for me not wanting to go now. i'm all in. now i regret not going last year.

Re: pray for updates
I understand and appreciate your love for Dave... but frankly I'm happy he's not there. He tends to bring with him a whole other crowd that to me... isn't very 'Rooish.

As the subject of your post states, we just need to pray for some updates.
Feb. 1st, 2006 07:14 pm (UTC)
a 'rooish princess
hey, i understand that over the past few(5?) years, dmb has gone from jam band icon w/ awes following to popular band for frat boys to like. and i will be the first to agree with you, i don't want to be rocking out contemplating if i 'could have been anyone other than me' with some tool box frat boy next to me. unfortunately this is 2006, the counter culture/drug scene/hippie mentality is (sort of) mainsteam. at least for people our age. we have to come to grips with the grim reality that that IS 'roosih these days. something about this whole line-up is not 'rooish to me. bonnie raitt, c'mon.
Feb. 1st, 2006 07:31 pm (UTC)
Re: a 'rooish princess
I totally agree that this lineup really isn't all that 'Roosish. I mean, where have all of the jam bands gone? No G Mule? No Widespread Panic? No Canned Heat??

What kind of crowd is Bonnaroo trying to attract with Bright Eyes and Death Cab for Cutie?? Last time I checked, those dipshits were on the OC and not in Tennessee!

And while you may be right that the 'Roosish crowd is a bunch of frat boys and whatnot... well, I think having DMB there would only make it that much worse.

Re: a 'rooish princess
seriously!!! where did fucking death cab for cutie even come from!??!?! when their agent got the call he must have been like, "you want them to play at what-aroo?"
Feb. 1st, 2006 07:50 pm (UTC)
Re: a 'rooish princess
I'm pretty sure there have been indie rock fucks at several of the last Bonnaroos, they just didn't show up on our radar because we didn't care.
Feb. 1st, 2006 07:59 pm (UTC)
Re: pray for updates
this means i'm going to listen to nothing but radiohead and beck for the next 5 months.

I have no idea what this means.

And weren't Dave and Trey one of your top bands? Two, even? Who are your top bands?

I too wish that there were more groups there, like the ones that you and I mentioned. But it wouldn't be useful if the entire festival were filled with bands I know, because you can't see all of them at once. Last time we went Primus were there, but only Flapjack and I saw them. I never saw Particle at Bonnaroo, I couldn't stay awake that late, since we couldn't sleep later than eight.

I totally understand everyone's disappointment! I guess I don't need more than ten or so bands to make it worth it for me, because that's all I can end up seeing anyway.

I'm still going to matter what. I'm glad you seem to want to as well. I hope that they add artists (I got an email from Particle today, but it only shared tour dates through the spring, say May-ish), but if they don't, I'm still excited.

Re: pray for updates
i'll have to listen to beck and radiohead so i can become more familiar with their musak, as to enjoy the show more. i know it was probably a little confusing since you were mentioned in the previous line and that didn't have anyhting to do with you.
Feb. 1st, 2006 04:54 pm (UTC)
Nice, the guy who sang the Portugese David Bowie songs in the Life Aquatic?
Feb. 1st, 2006 05:04 pm (UTC)
Oh yeah! Seu Jorge, right?

You should come with! It's going to be awesome! You like those bands!
Feb. 1st, 2006 07:33 pm (UTC)
See Seu Jorge if you get the chance. His latest album is terrific, and he's lots of fun live -- really mellow (DRUGS ahem) and charismatic.

My Morning Jacket is also really good live.
Feb. 1st, 2006 05:14 pm (UTC)
That is an impressive lineup.
Feb. 1st, 2006 07:29 pm (UTC)
see, i was hoping to really get my socks blown right off my ass here. i'm looking at a round trip plane ticket, plus an event ticket, plus whatever other expenses (RV/food/druqks/etc). without a job, that is a lot of money. i don't know. how long do i have to decide? this lineup is like the most mainstream yet, with the least number of exciting, hard-to-see acts. this announcement is more saddnening & confusing to me than anything.
Feb. 1st, 2006 07:45 pm (UTC)
Damn it!!! The more I think about this lineup... the more confused and frustrated I get. No Particle??? No Les??

Is it me or are you starting to get the vibe that most of the acts that have been there in years past were either not invited or declined to go because of Bonnaroo's desire to go more mainstream??

Did you know that Bonnaroo finished SECOND to only U2 in gross revenue for concerts last year?? There's a reason they've had such success and there's a reason Woodstock '69 was a hit while Woodstock '94 and Woodstock '99 were not and it has a little something to do with sucking the Almighty Corporate Cock.
Feb. 1st, 2006 08:00 pm (UTC)
They're cutting back tickets available to 2003 levels, so that's good. I am there to see the music. 2004 was supposedly "mainstream" and I had a wonderful time regardless.
Feb. 1st, 2006 08:33 pm (UTC)
I imagine that things were a tad tight with the extra 10,000 people and that might have something to do with the cutback... who knows. Actually, I'm not sure what Bonnaroo is really doing. It's not like the event didn't sell out with the likes of Trey and others and so adding more mainstream acts doesn't exactly help sell more tix.

Either way, I'm going and I'm gonna enjoy the music whether it be mainstream rock or grass roots jam.

Also... I recently read that SuperFly's lease with the land holders expires AFTER this year and that this might be the last year of Bonnaroo before it moves.
Feb. 1st, 2006 08:03 pm (UTC)
man, fuck mainstream. they have plenty of concerts all year they can go to. bonnaroo is a time/place for us Freaks to get together and do our Freak thing. (wait...maybe that's gaian mind. but they are a whole different breed of Freaks) and like trey isn't a big enough draw!?!?! name me two other bands that had a crazy following like phish. you can't! cause it was only the dead. but if making money was all they really cared about, why would they DECREASE ticket sales by 10,000. i guess if letting 10,000 less people in can prevent a death or two and the bad press that follows, it's worth it. please let this be NOTHING like woodstock '99 and EVERYTHING like woodstock '69.
Feb. 1st, 2006 08:00 pm (UTC)
Tickets go on sale Feb. 11th.
Feb. 1st, 2006 08:25 pm (UTC)

also I WANT TO GO. i haven't DONE IT with beck in oh, like...twenty-two years now.
Feb. 1st, 2006 08:58 pm (UTC)
Rolling = on ecstasy (the drug).

Oh man! If you went! I would finally get to meet Lindsey J. Markel! That would be terribly exciting!
Feb. 1st, 2006 08:36 pm (UTC)
Also... I just chatted with Amy Loveland and she states that both her and her manfriend, Elliot, want to go to the Roo this year and that they are interested in going down with us if possible. They state that they would be willing to go in on an RV as well. I'm pretty sure all of you have met both Amy and Elliot since they've both been to the Manse a couple of times for parties.
Feb. 1st, 2006 10:21 pm (UTC)
For me this is a very solid line up. Not that Bonnaroo was only about the music for me anyway. Dresden Dolls, Ben Folds, Radiohead and a bunch of other great people. I'm all in! Also, we need to make a final decision on the RV when we buy tickets.
Feb. 4th, 2006 01:25 pm (UTC)
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. *wiping tear from cheek* I want to go
Feb. 8th, 2006 04:07 am (UTC)
Just doing a google on "motorcycles" and "bonnaroo" I stumbled on this. The lineup looks awesome. I went in 04. I am considering riding my motorcycle down there in some crazy grand adventure this summer. I wonder if bonnaroo has motorcycle camping area's so i'm not in the car farm?....
