Well, he was one. I wonder what the statute of limitations on that is. If you kill a cop, you're always a cop killer. Presidents don't give up the title even after they've exited office.

And if I am elected to be your drug dealer, I swear ...
And he was in the fifth grade once, so he's a fifth grader.

No wonder he's no longer a drug dealer, then. You make all your best junkie contacts in fifth grade out by the fence, during recess ...

I have not seen the video in question- perhaps they're referring to his character in it?

However they mean it, it's not the clearest writing.

That was so hard to read...I can't believe that got published! I thought writers were on strike, not editors!

The article is all right (well, in a grammatical sense) on the usatoday.com site; it must have been screwed up in the transition to Yahoo's feed.

Well, Jay-Z does call himself a drug dealer (or at least former drug dealer). Most of his income comes from some kind of music-related stuff these days though, I think it's what the kids call "hippity hopping".

I didn't see any credits for that op-ed, but can we assume it's a letter? I can't believe any professional or semi-professional journalist would write that piece of crap. Although I'm not really sure why the editors would include it.

Wow. Someone needs to learn how to spell check before publishing their article for the whole world to read.

Whether or not he ever dealt drugs, it's hardly his distinguishing characteristic, neither are most of his fans drug dealers. Beyond that, and beyond the spacebar issue, it's really terrible, "we shouldn't care what stupid multi-millionaire models think about economic policy, but when the pop culture tide starts to turn we should pay attention, but only because all other indicators point the same way." Which is also annoying, because don't they consider that Giselle and Jay-Z might be extraordinarily savvy businesspeople?

This is stupid. International drug dealers use krugerrands.

i knew a dude who kept a Kruger on hand at all times with the logic that, even if the world was ending & the nukes were dropping, he could probably get some sucker to take it as currency.

I don´t think so. I think at worst it implies that Jay consciously put that image in the video because Euros have become the currency of choice of drug trafficking.

And let´s face it, whether or not Jay Z is actually a drug dealer, he probably owes his fortune to pretending that he is, or was, so it´s hard to get worked up when someone calls him out for what his image is essentially based on.
