Okay. When I start my computer up, everything is okay for a while. Right now I have a bunch of .mp3's that are Read-Only, so I had to go through each folder and unclick the Read-Only thing so that I can fill out their tags. So I'm working in Windows Explorer or Exploring or whatever. All I'm doing is opening and closing folders. At first everything works great, but after a little while, everything s l o w s d o w n. It starts taking 30, 60, even 90 seconds to open a folder. A folder with a grand total of, say, 12 files in it, regular .mp3 size. This is seriously wrong, right?
I opened . . . I think it's called "System Monitor"? It shows a graph of how much Processor usage is going on. When I open the files, the usage shoots up to 100%. That's every percent I've got. No other programs were running at the time. And if I just sit there and look at the folders (with rage in my eyes), usage drops down to 0 or 5%.
So what's wrong? Is it something with my processor? Is it a memory issue? As you may or may not remember, in December the cable modem guy shorted out my motherboard, and they stole it for a month and finally gave it back with a new motherboard, an inferior (i.e. less cute, and no USB ports on the front) case, and a wiped hard drive. I of course am infinitely angry at myself for having the guy come in the first place, and then letting him take the damn thing.
I obviously am holding these evil men responsible for breaking my computer, but I'd like to have some idea of what's wrong with it before I go to them to have it fixed. I mean, they're fucking idots, these Comcast people. They're not going to know what's wrong with it, and I sure as hell am not going to let them take my computer again. Ideally, I'd like to bring it to a PC repair shop (Vince, Kevin, do you have any recommendations? Probably not, you probably do everything yourself . . . ), have them fix it, and then have Comcast foot the bill.
Eventually everything gets so slow I can't do anything, and then I start yelling really, really loudly. I say "fuck" a lot, or just scream as loud as I can. (I was actually a little worried last night that my neighbors might call the police or something, thinking that someone was tearing my face off with his teeth.) It's so frustrating . . . I don't like not knowing how to fix things, you know? Next to my car, this is the most expensive thing I own, and to know that it's all fucked up because I'm an idiot . . . it goes at the bottom of an increasingly long Reasons Why Keritha Is A Failure At Life list, y'know? But then when I start it up again (the computer I mean, not my life), everything is fine and great for a while, nice and fast. It's as though something is building up somewhere . . . oh, and of course I tried defragging and scandisking, but that didn't help.
So any help or advice is appreciated. Thank ye.
