Swiftly tilting

But see, I figured out what I need years ago. I need a slightly larger planet. These 24-hour days just ain't cuttin' it for me anymore. I need a nice 27, 28-hour day. Maybe even 30, then we could all have three hour lunch breaks so we could nap. I am sleepy this morning! I feel like I'll never catch up.

Last night Dave brought crumb cake with him (did you know that I make The Best Crumb Cake In the World? I do), and this morning I was going to bring a piece with me for breakfast, but then I decided it would be best if I didn't and I suppose I was right, because man oh man do I want to be eating a piece of crumb cake right now.

Did I say that thing already in this journal, about the bigger planet? I hope not. How embarassing.

I'm all for bigger planets, if we can get our lifespans to extend to scale. I already feel sucky about letting a 24 hour day pass without progress...

Oh, and I want some crumb cake.

The problem is, as I'm sure you realize, that a small increase in radius is going to lead to a pretty dramatic increase in volume. Then we'll all have to get shorter and probably move slower. I bet these factors would offset the productivity of the longer day.

What about if we just slowed down the rotation of the earth? Or what if we found a planet that was slightly larger, but had, like, cork inside (ha, I said "corn" by accident) instead of iron? Isn't that what it is, iron? Yeah, iron. Well, so how about cork, or corn? Then the mass could stay about the same. Sounds good to me.

Looks like Venus is the answer. Less mass (=less gravity, right? I'm not so smart) & a longer day. One that is, in fact, longer than the year. Happy birthday, everyone!

Well, if we yank the iron form the earths core, we'll lose the magnetic field that surrounds the earth, as this is created by the movement of molten iron pumping through the earth's crust. Then we'd be like Mars, which is magnetically inactive by comparison, and that would be bad. very, very bad.
