If wishes were fishes

Man. So GameCube is down to $150.

A month or so ago I proclaimed that I would buy a PS2 when the price dropped, but then it did last week, and I didn't think it would happen so soon. And now The House has a PS2. Hmm.

And now today we hear that the GameCube is down to $150. Hmm. Okay, so Nintendo is all brightly-colored and kid-oriented and whatnot, but I'm thinking about it this morning and realizing that that's what I like. I marvel at what they (meaning the royal "they") can do these days, I ooh and ahh and like to watch people play fancy long RPG's and racing games, and . . . but you know what? I really like brightly-colored, even kid-orented games. I finished Zelda: A Link to the Past months ago, and so wanted a new RPG to be working on. I tried Silent Hill. but it was too scary and I only played it once. I tried some other PS game about a little blue samurai guy, but I only played a couple times and got bored and kept dying. So I started asking for recommendations for other SNES RPG's. I like them simple; I don't have less fun.

So I think maybe I should get a GameCube. No one else I know real well has one. I would like to play Luigi's Mansion, and that Batman game, and I hear SuperMonkeyBall is really good, and Super Smash Brothers, and the new Zelda will be out soon. Oh, and if I want a grown-up-looking game, the new old Resident Evil is AMAZING. I never played the first one, not that seems to matter.

Man, why am I writing all this? Oh, wait, I know. Because I really want one, but have to justify the expense to myself. Did I do a good job?

Yes. The purchase is completely justified. Buy one. :)

Super Monkey ball = good
Luigi's Mansion = Good

Batman game = BAD

REz Evil = No opinion, as I must see it for myself.

Yes. Buy it. I myself am not a "gamer", but the thought of Luigi's Mansion is a great one. Go for it.

have you seen any of the new rpgs for the pc?

Sort of. They're nice, and for simply admiration value, then yeah, they're neat.

PC games ain't my steez, though, yo. They would probably take up a lot of something on my PC, and I can't stand sitting in that chair when I can sit on my couch (hooray for extender cords!) and play on my larger TV screen.

Biggest difference between PC and console gaming, as noted somewhere by a guy who spends more time actually pondering the physics of these things than I, is that PC gamers tend to play for longer stretches of time, whereas console gamers average out to about an hour or two, even on games originally developed for the PC. I would consider myself pretty much exclusively a console gamer, if only based on short attention span. Also, the ability to sit on the sofa while playing factors in there, somewhere.

But anyways, the Gamecube is rock-a-riffic, no mistake. Go for it.

I hated Silent Hill. Because it WASN'T scary. Apparently I'm the hardest person in the world to scare, or something.

Of course, for SNES RPG's, Final Fantasy II (IV) and III (VI) are really good.

The new Zelda's going to be totally sweet. They're cel-shading it, which I thought was going to suck, but the movies for it look great. It's got a lot of the Link to the Past style, and the animation is just beautiful. So. Cool, yo.
