My Adventures in New Orleans - Epilogue

I wasn't done talking about New Orleans, even though I've been back a MONTH now. I just finished unpacking last night.

  • I wore my flip-flops all Thursday and Friday, which meant a lot of walking around on winter-soft feet. My toepits suffered some serious damage.
  • I'm not normally a big drinker. No, really. I drink often, I suppose, but not usually to excess -- the weed makes me sleepy and lazy and I don't finish enough drinks. But we didn't smoke in NOLA, so it was all alcohol. Somebody had to take on the role of The Entertaining Drunk, and I reluctantly was that somebody. I did quite a job, too, if I do say so myself.
  • Thursday night we didn't get home until 4:30am, and I had been up at ten to five to get ready to catch my flight, and there's a one-hour time difference, so I was up for twenty-four hours straight. Oh, big deal, you say? SO big a deal! Have you noticed how much I talk about sleep? Man. I do not know the last time I was up for twenty-four hours straight, seriously.
  • And then Friday I didn't get back until 5:30am, and then Saturday night, I didn't sleep at all. Me and Jon and Mars were in Jon's hotel room, er, talking, and finally Jon and I decided that I should wake up Mars (we wore her out) and get her to drive me back to Kevin's so that I could take a shower and we could head to the airport. An all-nighter, baby!
  • But I'm jumping ahead of myself. Friday we (me, Kevin, Jon, Manning, Tami, and Ben) went to the Aquarium and it was AWESOME. I love to look! Aquariums are cool because you can get rightallup in the fishes' grill. In zoos the animals are far away, but in aquariums they swim right by the side of the tank. Man that place ruled. Everyone kept saying that they wished I were high because then I would enjoy it more? But I don't think so. If I were high my vision might have been a little foggy, and I can't imagine enjoying it any more than I did. And there was a bald eagle and a couple of falcons there, too.
  • The best bar was the Funky Butt. Tami and I did a shot with the bartender Fizel. I remember his name because it's like Fivel Mouskewitz but with a Zee. The Funky Butt is all maroon and dark greens and purples inside, and the light is red just like in my bathroom, which was copied from Mitch's old bathroom, which I believe was copied from Manning's bathroom so everybody wins!, and the music was good and there was NOBODY else in there! Sweet! Just us, yelling and being happy and toasting The Internet.
  • On Saturday Slick took us (me, Ben, Rhino) to a park near her house. It was soooo pretty. And sooo much nicer than a park in New Jersey. It was lovely, and the weather was nice, and we walked around in a fountain and I took a nap on the grass. It was a lovely relaxing day.
  • Also on Sunday we went to Magazine Street where I bought a book on chess by Bobby Fischer, and to a graveyard that was closed. Boo.
  • Mars and ScareCrow both cooked, and both meals were AMAZING and everyone was really really impressed.
  • Mars has a dog named Wallace and she's one of the best dogs ever. Interesting and friendly and not boring, but not jumpy and licky and smelly neither. Also Mars has the Best Room in the House.
  • I think maybe that's it? I dunno. That's not it, but it's all I feel like writing about.
  • Jon's going to be here in one week! It says so on my calendar at work: "Jon!" And then later on in the week it says "Kate!" Not everyone will be around, unfortunately, but Kevin and Katie are getting MARRIED so THERE! Man. I'm looking forward to Delilah's, I'll tell you what.

In conclusion, my extended weekend in New Orleans was possibly the best time I've had in years, and I'd do it all again in an instant. The city was great, but getting to hang out with all my Internet Buddies (by the time our kids are grown-ups, this won't be a nerdy term) was the bizznizzityrizzomb. Vive le Nawlins!

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Bacchus, Dionysus, whomever, for blessing me with absurd inebriation, and then no hangovers or trowing up, all weekend. I wasn't so fortunate this past weekend, but (cough, cough), that isn't really the point of this entry, now is it?

So, many thanks, o Lords! I'm sure the water and naproxen sodium before bed helped. Thank you for the granting me the presence of mind to force some down my gullet before I passed out.

Naproxen Sodium? Is that something you take regularly or is that an over-tha-counter substance?

It's Aleve, yo. I highly recommend popping one before bedtime, after a hard night of drinking.

Hurrah for aquariums! Out of curiosity, are there any aquariums in the Philadelphia/south Jersey area?

Yup, the New Jersey State Aquarium is in Camden, which is just twenty minutes up the road. I haven't been, but I've heard it's pretty nice.

Well for fuck's sake, let's get you high and we'll go!

I went to the Camden one, and it was pretty neat. I'd go on a really nice day, because they have these gardens in front of it (well, they did a year ago) that are gorgous. Plus, kids play in them and it's like a HAPPY KID EXHIBIT! Which is cute!

    Holy carp.
