Okay okay, here's something

Oh but so here's something -- this morning I had a dream about hot air balloons. The Cute Boy was there, which makes sense because in Real Life his dad owns hot air balloons, or something, I dunno, I still have yet to have a conversation with the kid. Anyway, it was a pretty nice dream I think, I don't really remember, but then today I'm all Yahoo's Most Popularing my morning away, and apparently there's been a Hot Air Ballonn Week in Switzerland or some shit, but I didn't even know that, so isn't it weird?

Things are weird around here, at work. One of the project managers left on Friday, he's been here for ages. It's just very uneasy. I dunno.

Man, this is bullshit, let me mention some GOOD stuff that happened this weekend.

I bought a hat! I love winter hats and now I have one more. I also bought a computer game, which will be my first computer game ever, Dune 2000. It was only $4.99. Also I had some pan-seared tuna appemetizers at the Houlihan's at the mall, and it was surprisingly delicious. Also I met kaufie and I don't think we talked much (I don't think; though it's possible we had really long awesome conversations all night long, I dunno, I was making my drinks as strong as possible, for to make up for my very late arrival at the party) but I really liked her a lot, for whatever reason, and she and I and Tami smoked in my car (and it smells awful, oh shoot, and I just remembered I didn't leave the windows open so that it can air out more) and Joe Fortunado was apparently wandering around looking for my car, but man, you snooze you lose. I said I was going outside, you need to follow my ass. I was heads and shoulders above the rest of the crowd (literally), it should have been easy!

Man, my head, seriously, what the hell is wrong with me? Oh so dude I get four (4) sick/personal days a year (which I think is complete crap, but we'd best not get me started) and I've only used one and they start up at the beginning of every June. And if you have some left over, you get the money for them! So I might get a little bit of money in June! Hooray. I need it.

I might attempt to make very small booties, but I'm not sure.

Okay, so those are some good things that happened this weekend. Oh also on Friday I got to squeeze in a nap before going out, which is always nice, and I saw what HDTV is like and it really genuinely is much sharper than regular TV, and on Sunday I made myself 4 deviled eggs and then ate them and I make really good deviled eggs. Sometimes at college if I didn't like what the dining hall was serving, I'd take a few hard-boiled eggs from the salad line, and make them right there in the dining hall. They were pretty good.

Also, didn't I send you a copy of Grim Fandango? Wasn't that your first computer game ever? Did you EVEN PLAY IT?!?!

Man, I KNEW you were going to mention Grim Fandango!

Dune is the first game I ever BOUGHT. Grim Fandango was SO AWESOME when I first started playing it, but then I sorta forgot about it. Don't worry, I won't end up playing this one either, I just want it to see what the stuff looks like, and how in compares to the stuff in my mind.

Oh you hurt me when you say you didn't finish playing Grim Fandango! You should finish it, even if you just find a walkthrough to do it!

my new hat

Grim Fandango is totally the shit. I didn't play it when it first came out, which usually means I won't end up playing it at all, but I kept hearing so many good things about it, that I picked it up (not actually all that long ago) and we couldn't stop playing it until it was done. Very awesome. I'm glad PC adventure games are making a comeback lately... The Longest Journey, Syberia, Post-Mortem, etc...

Also, Dune 2000 was a bit of a disappointment, but if you never played the original Dune 2, you may find it entertaining.

I actually don't really expect to find it very entertaining at all. It's not really my steez; I just want to see what it's like.

In case you didn't already know I was a dork, I have Dune 2000, too! I also have a little cheat program specifically for it -- or think I do, assuming it wasn't one of those items sacrificed in various hard drive cleanings -- which I will email you, if you'd like. There's little worse that playing an RTS campaign level for excess of two hours and still losing.

That's one of the reasons I don't play a lot of computer games -- they tend to be geared at people with much longer attention spans.

really, i just want to see an ornithopter
Yeahhh . . . if I end up playing it to any extent I'll let you know, but to be honest, I doubt that I will. My desk chair is too uncomortable, and I have more fun video games on my tv.

I pretty much just got it because it was Dune, and because I wanted to know how that sort of game is played; I've never played one before. I've never played one because I don't really think I'll like it, but I wanted to at least know what it's like. And Dune II was like the first ever "action" game or whatever the genre is called, so you know, history and all that.

And it was only five bucks.

Re: really, i just want to see an ornithopter
And it has John Rhys Davies... wait... it sounded right in my head, but that may be the name of some random teen actor I unwittingly transposed... Anyways, it has Sallah from the Indiana Jones movies as the Atreides mentat/guy of war, in the cutscenes.

AWESOME, really? Fuckin' . . . who is that, Thufir? That's awesome, I'm sure he'll do a great job! I can't wait! Man, I guess you actually have to *advance* in order to see neat stuff, which is a shame, but I'll see some stuff in the beginning, I guess.

Re: really, i just want to see an ornithopter
Emperor: Battle for Dune also has a lot of live action stuff going on as well, I think Michael Dorn plays an Atreides noble, if I remember correctly... Also, Dune 2 was the first known example of what would later be labeled the RTS (Real time strategy) genre. Dune 2000 was basically them taking their Command and Conquer engine and putting Dune in it... The original "Dune" game was nothing like the following games... it was more adventureish.

Yeah, right, I said that, right? Okay, RTS, that's the name of the genre, thanks. Wait, so what is the relationship between Dune 2000 and Dune II? On the box it said it was "Dune II remastered" -- I got the impression that it was just Dune II but with spiffier graphics, but the gameplay was exactly the same. Is that right?

Re: really, i just want to see an ornithopter
I was just trying to clarify your earlier statement, as you seemed uncertain of the genre name.

I can see why one would think "Dune II Remastered" would suggest merely an updated version of the older version (as I also did at the time of its release), but as far as I can tell that label was deliberately misleading. Technically, its in the same genre and it is set in the Dune universe, but beyond that it's pretty dissimilar. Totally different game engine, interface, graphical style, etc. Here is a link to a review that explains the differences fairly well.

Considering how old Dune 2 is, it might be small enough to just email to you, if you are interested and if I can find it... Then you would have both, heh.

Re: really, i just want to see an ornithopter
Man, I'm glad I only spent five bucks on it!

I may take you up on the offer of Dune II. I'll let you know.

Oh, and sorry for being bitchy; I tend to overreact when I think that people think that I don't know things that I do know. Sorry!

No harm, no foul.

Dude, where did you get this silly idea that my dad owns hot air balloons?
Jan. 31st, 2003 02:38 pm (UTC)

I'm sorry, I should have clarified: the Cute Boy at work.
Jan. 31st, 2003 03:08 pm (UTC)
well ok then, i'm glad we got that cleared up.
