I don't pay for my heat (yay!), and yet my electric bill was seventy-five dollars for December! Holy cow, that's really expensive, considering that it was something like TWENTY-five in November! I wonder how that could have happened! Christmas lights, do you think?

P.S. My Christmas tree is still up. But I'm taking it down tomorrow, I SWEAR, really!

sure, you had lights on the wall, the porch, the handrail for your stairs, the entrance to your living room and the tree. did i miss any?

The bathroom! They haven't been up long, though.

And at the bottom and top of the stairs.

Oh, and the red-green-and-white ones in the kitchen!

But c'mon, how much power can those tiny little lights possibly use up?

each strand typically uses 3-6 watts...so not much, but if you're running them 24-7 it can add up...

assuming 4.5 watts/strand, it'd be 0.1 KWH/day per strand. so 20 strands over 30 days would be about 60 KWH for the month. dunno about you, but that's less than 1/10th of my electric bill...

so, it's prolly not the christmas lights :)

er...found some better data :)

Small clear bulbs, indoor/outdoor, 36W
Small "midget globe bulbs," indoor, 10W
Small colored/clear bulbs, indoor/outdoor, 36W
C 71/2 5W bulbs, indoor/outdoor, 125W
Large 10W C bulbs, outdoor, 500W

So, yeah...these are higher numbers than I had read elsewhere...
