Ha ha, okay, so I'm in work, right? Right now, I mean, I'm telling you what's happening right now. I got here about a half an hour ago, and I'm talking to Bruce, and I can't really see right in front of my face, just sort of a little blind spot, I was pretty sure, but it's hard to identify blind spots because you can't see them, you know? Because you're blind right there. And it's juuuuuust off center so when you go to look at it it moves. Of course.

But I can still see the plan and the computer screen, so what the hey. Then I realize that it is indeed an aura. If you get migraines, you might know what an aura is: little flashy lights, in a line usually, in your field of vision. I get them as a precursor to migraines, but I don't get migraines often (knock wood). And a few times I've gotten an aura, but then real quick took some ibuprofen and went to sleep, and I didn't seem to get a migraine -- in the past I've thought that I just "beat it out," but man, I don't know if you can DO that to a migraine, so maybe I wasn't going to get one those days anyway. I don't know.

Anyway, I started writing this entry because my periperal vision was pretty much gone. After the aura started, I found someone who had some Excedrin and popped a couple, then came back upstairs and my peripheral vision went away, but now it's mostly back again, so I suppose that's a good thing.

I have a lot of work to do and Bruce is out of the office all day so it would be really nice to be able to stay at work. I hope this doesn't turn into a real migraine, with axe-through-the-head pain and the uncontrollable vomiting and whatnot. That would be a real bummer.

P.S. It occurs to me that I ate ~1.5 lbs of strawberries last night, and I know that strawberries are a trigger food for SOME people, for migraines, and if God has made me one of those people then I will hate him and smack him in the face next time I see him so that'd better not be it YOU HEAR ME, GOD?? I like strawberries.

Man. Three things:

1.) I hope to god you don't get a migraine. I don't like my friends being in pain.

2.) My mother's migraine triggers include tomato sauce (as in PIZZA) and chocolate and wine. I couldn't live if I were my mother.

3.) One of my co-workers has been in HOSPITAL with migraines recently. Triggered by histamines in a fish called escolar (perhaps improperly cleaned by the purveyor). Doctor said he probably would have gotten them sooner or later (family history) but the escolar was an accellerant or something like that.

Please don't get the head hurt. Feel good.

I get those when I haven't smoked a cigarette in a while.

I get stress triggered migraines. They are a real bear, and no pill that I have found stops them. Luckily, there is no food that triggers it for me. Good luck!

The time my mom was so hurty that she got sick, the doctor gave her a shot, and it was a fucking miracle. In 20 minutes (at the most) she was back up walking around and feeling fine. I done witnessed this with mine own eyes.

She said that the doctor said that she can't take them very often, because they lose effectiveness the more you take it. Maybe something like 5-10 times total you could ever use it before it would stop working for good.

Plus, they're expensive.

Keep in mind this was ... probably 1994-1995 when this happened, so for all I know they're more advanced now, gone, illegal, in pill form, or something else. Medicine moves fast.

That is exactly how my migraines start. A small blind spot, that at first you almost aren't sure if its there or not. Mine usually gets bigger, and then disappears as the splitting headache begins. Excedrin migraine at the onset will lessen the intensity for me, but not prevent completely.

Hope you managed to dodge the bullet, migraines are one of the worst forms of torture I can imagine.

I pretty much dodged the bullet, I think, thanks.

FYI, Excedrin Migraine and Excedrin are the same thing, just packaged differently. They were all excited when the F.D.A. approved them for treatment for migraines.

Doesn't Excedrin have caffeine in it? That might make things worse (unless your body needs a caffeine fix).

For me it's oranges. I can eat stuff with oranges in it, etc., but if someone peels one of those things around me my head starts hurting immediately. If I get away from the smell soon enough I can usually avoid the headache though. Some other citrus fruits bother me too, but oranges are the worst. Sometimes the smell of them in a pile at the farmer's market makes my head hurt also. I also avoid all those cleaning products with orange oil in them, whatever the hell that is.

Hopefully it isn't strawberry's since you like them.

The caffeine is there to help the acetaminophen and aspirin work more effectively.

And man, that sucks about the oranges, has it always been that way or has it gotten worse as you've gotten older?

Cool, I'll have to read up on that. Personally, caffeine makes my headaches worse, at least when they are in coke or coffee.

Oranges have bothered me for a long time, I think since high school. I think it has actually lessened a little bit. Same for the smell of vinyl... bothers me still but I seem to be able to take it a little better now. I always hold my breathe when I put up a new vinyl shower curtain and leave the window open to let it air out. I can also hold my breath a lot longer nowadays :)

Man. Used to be that a handful of Excedrin would take care of my migraines. Now they just make me nauseous. Doesn't happen during a regular headache, though.

I hate migraines. Feel better, washu!
