Well goddammit, "Dave Matthews & Friends" are playing Bonnaroo this year. That's . . . ugh. I mean, I personally happen to like Dave Matthews, but man, do we think this will change the vibe of the crowd? Or am I being elitist?

Also, tickets go on sale a week from tomorrow! What a short period of time in which to make a decision!

Primus is on the list, though, thank goodness. And David Byrne, that's neat. But is there any hip-hop on that list? I didn't see any, though it's very possible that there is, and I'm just not familiar with the group. And no Jack Johnson (o gypsy girl, my gypsy girl) and no Ben Harper and no Roots and no Spree and where are the DJ's? I want my Kid Koala!

But I'm complaining, there are a lot of people on there I'm interested in seeing. Like MM&W (I couldn't stay awake for their whole set last year, they played at midnight) and the String Cheese Incident and I think I like Wilco, and Galactic and the North Mississippi Allstars but no Robert Randolph and the Family Band?

This is only the initial lineup, of course, but I don't imagine they'll add more artists before tickets go on sale. And there are a lot of people on there I haven't heard of, or haven't heard, so it's possible the line-up is a lot better-looking (to me) than I realize. I don't know, what do you say, Jeff? I pretty much just trust him in most things Musical.

Yesterday someone posted on the bonnaroo community that Clear Channel had acquired Superfly, but that is apparently a lie.

A) that i lived in california;
B) that i had enough money for tickets; and
C) that i liked outdoor concert festivals.

Hey, maybe I'll go this year! After all, it is only about forty-five minutes away from my parents' house in Franklin.

Or in the least, you and rhino are welcome to come crash there afterwards.

Don't think that just cuz you live nearby, it won't be a big production! Tickets are expensive (they're three-day passes only, there aren't any single-day tickets), it will sell out in a week or two at the most, and there is a three to fourteen hour wait to get into the venue on the first day. So you'd better mean it! But you should definitely go! If I go, I mean!

And thanks for the offer, but we have to hightail it home so that we can get to work on Tuesday. It's a 14-hour drive.

I live in New Jersey. I went last year and it changed my life. I just don't want it to be too . . . fratty. Hopefully the camping and dirt will scare people off.

that would be awesome if it scared them off. i think you know a good friend of mine..steve wolfe. i was hoping o.a.r. would be on the list. i heard last year they did a great job.

I have met swolfe a couple of times at parties in NJ; but mostly, I hang out with a lot of kids he hung out with in high school. I didn't meet him before he moved to Texas.

I didn't catch OAR at Bonnaroo, but I did see them at the Sprite Remix Tour (with king_kai, which answers your question below). They didn't really do it for me -- they were okay, just not my steez. But yes, apparently they put on a very good performance at Bonnaroo, I heard that a lot of people were happy about them.

i have to say, i am HELLA disappointed with the initial lineup. i got to the bottom of the list & said, "uh, hello? hip-hop, where art thou?" when i saw that they had signed dylan & dave matthews (both of whom were supposed to be at NE last year) i was hoping we would at least get talib. no such luck. cut chemist, that's about it. i mean, there are still quite a few acts that i am definitely hype about, but nothing like last year. granted, at this point there are still 5 or 6 acts on that list that i have never even heard of, let alone know anything about. but all told, i am way less than thrilled by this announcement. i will break down specifics in a separate post.

did you get a chance to see talib in the sprite remix tour last year?? it was an awesome show.

hell yeah it was. sadly i didn't get to see him when he opened for galactic in the fall. i heard that show was SICK.

That lineup is really putting me on the fence for this year. I liked the music last year (at least the stuff I was coherent enough to follow) but I wasn't really blown away.

Without the hip-hop, Bela Fleck, and Robert Randolph, this lineup looks kinda weak.

I'm of course down with Primus and Byrne...Grandaddy is cool if you dig the 'indie' thing...and The Bad Plus is a cool trippy jazz outfit that does covers of popular songs...they're pretty fun.

But yeah kinda lackluster compared to last year. I had one of the best times of my life at last years shindig also...but I'm already dropping a good chunk of cash to go to Coachella this year (have you seen the lineup?) so I'm really going to have to debate about going this year. hmmmmmmmmm
