Awesome films by Kurosawa! It would have been nice if they were all digitally remastered with color added, but you'll have to settle for black & white which isn't too bad.

Eighty-two bucks . . . I checked the price on the Throne of Blood DVD, and that's almost $35, but the box set was released in 2002 and the ToB DVD (also Criterion) was released in 2003, so I guess it's possible that the boxset is a little outdated? I'd have to do more research, but I can't be spending that sort of money anyway.

I would like to see these remastered, but leave in B&W please, or at least have it as a double (sided) disc set where you get color on one side and original on the other.

Still, it's great that this is out ! Time to start saving now!

ridiculous! disgusting! unfathomable! i would kill a man who colorized these films.

also? i could be mistaken, but i thought the criterion collection kurosawa movies were remastered. i mean, i could be wrong, but that seems unlikely, knowing me.

and ALSO, i would totally hold out for a bigger box set that included Ran & Rashomon. those kurosawa dvds are SO expensive individually.

Yeah, the Amazon description says "New transfers with restored image & sound". That guy is clearly an idiot.

I mean, what would be the aim of colorizing it? What would be the point? It was shot in black and white, why on earth would anyone think it would look better in color? Man.

Also, as I mentioned to Kate above, the box set was released in 2002, but Criterion released an edition of Throne of Blood (I didn't bother to check out the other ones, as I can't afford them anyway), in 2003 with possibly extra features? It's hard to tell from the Amazon descriptions. So yeah, that sucks.

However, I too am an idiot. Why am I looking for the info for Throne of Blood if it's not IN that boxset? Jeez.

Awesome films by Kurosawa! It would have been nice if there was more karate and shit and maybe some engrish. I think engrish is funny.

Worst idea ever.

Psst. Deep Discount DVD is cheaper, and they do free shipping.
