'Star Trek' Actor George Takei Comes Out

Wha wha whaaaaa?

I'm relatively new to the Star Trek thing! Did we suspect/know this already? Because I've never heard a hint of this, nor had it ever occurred to me. I don't really know anything about the actors' personal lives, though, really, it's hard enough keeping up with all the made-up shit. Good for him, though! Man, 68 years old, took you long enough, buddy!

Additionally, happy birthday, maoscorpio!

I think he cast himself
"He serves on the advisory committee of the California Civil Liberties Public Education Program and is chairman of East West Players, the theater company producing 'Equus.'"

All right, all right. I am notoriously terrible at realizing that gay people are gay.

Incidentally, Nimoy was in Equus years and years ago. I read about it in I Am Not Spock.

Y'know, they had Shatner on Stern the other day, and they were playing bits where they had edited Takei's dialog to say all kinds of stuff, a lot of it which was gay. Maybe this was sort of an open secret? I don't know.

But who cares? He's happy, he doesn't have to hide anything, it's all good!

man, it is still early for me & my head ain't quite right yet. so for some reason, i guess i was more skimming than reading, i thought that said "Frontiers, a biweekly Los Angeles magazine covering the gay and lesbian Star Trek community." and i thought, man, that seems like a narrow market segment. but i thought it was a play on the "final frontier" & i thought that was pretty clever...

Man, UNTRUE. The amount of gay, lesbian, tranny, bi, and fag-hag "Star Trek" fans is stupefyingly huge. Why this is I cannot say, as I have never really watched any of the ST shows, but rest assured...

And yet, he's still not quite as gay as Trek fandom in general.

He was totally running around shirtless (the only shirtless one) in Day of the Dove...

I always thought Chekov would be the one to come out. Huh...

Something about those costumes made me think they were all gay. But not TNG. Certainly not Picard. His role in 'Jeffrey' notwithstanding. And all that theater. Shut up.

this puts him in the company of men like Mike Piazza and Tom Cruise and Rob Thomas.

oh, alright. Rob Thomas only has partial membership.

thanks for the birthday wishes!!! the next time you come to see a Flashpoint show, let us know in advance, so we can drink afterwards.
