I know that's a pretty mediocre picture (here is another one), I will try to get better ones this weekend. But I have a new kitten! Hooray! I've been thinking about getting a new kitten since Henry ran off a few months back, and I visited the local animal shelter to see if he was there; and I've been seriously thinking about getting a new kitten for two months now, but various (boring) things kept me from picking one up. But now I have picked one up! Here he is! I had planned on picking him up on Sunday, but the lady was all "we can't hold him for that long" so I grabbed him on my way home from work.
Henry is not pleased, but I think they'll be all right. He hisses like crazy, and he growls, that deep-throated cat growl that is SO COOL and scary. He acts like a velociraptor, with the weird growling and the stalking and whatnot. But he hasn't give the little guy so much as a swipe, so I think that in a few weeks Henry will be over it (I think at this point he's just pissed that there's someone else in HIS house, getting HIS attention) and they will be best buds, napping together in one pile of catness. (Oh also I got a mostly-white cat because Henry is a mostly-white cat, and it's one thing that I (nor visitors) can't wear black ever, but to not be able to wear black OR white? Forget it!)
Oh and also the kitten makes Henry look HUGE. I mean I know that Henry is big, and also a little fat these days, but MAN, when there is a tiny, less-than-two-pound kitten in the house, an almost-twenty-pound cat appears ENORMOUS.
So, the kitten is as yet unnamed! When I got Henry I asked for suggestions from friends, and received tens, if not a hundred, and then . . . named him Henry. But don't let this discourage you!
Here are my ideas so far:
- (Herr Doktor Wilhelm Gottfried) Leibniz -- big name for a little cat, but what a guy! He was awesome in Stephenson's Baroque Cycle, he was one of the fathers of calculus, he's got that optimistic philosophy bullshit going on, and he's German!
- Miles (Teg or O'Brien) -- a literary reference (remember, I'm reading Heretics of Dune right now) to a totally awesome character, PLUS "Miles" is a regular guy's name, so it sort of matches Henry. Also, when I mentioned "Miles" to Mitch, he assumed I was referring to the Chief of Operations, and man, I totally love Miles O'Brien too!
- Jeremy -- I dunno, man, but when I met him at the shelter he seemed like a Jeremy. Not because he reminds me of Jeremy Frankenstein (though the name was probably in my mind because I've read those two Jeremy strips recently), he just . . . looks like a Jeremy. I don't know.
If you have an opinion, voice it here!
What should I name my tiny kitten? (Note: he will eventually turn into a cat :( )
Do you have a suggestion of your own, mister smarty-pants?
NEW KITTENNNNN! He is seriously so awesome. He runs and jumps and climbs and acts like a monkey. He's terribly friendly. And he's energetic, as all kittens are, but he seems a little less manic than Henry was at his age. He's also around twelve weeks old, and Henry was only six weeks when I got him -- I can't really fit the new guy in the palm of one hand. I'll be sure to take a picture of him next to a quarter (for scale) at some point.
