doot doo doo, gonna do that dance!

Oh God, they just cast Bruce Greenwood -- aka Mitch Yost -- as Christopher Pike!

I wasn't sure which of my friends had the overlapping interests of John From Cincinnati and Star Trek, hence this LiveJournal post.

I -- I'm not sure how I feel about this. JFC is the only thing in which I've seen this dude, and Mitch Yost [haha, I totally typed "Mitch Young" by accident] was a total dickhead. So it's hard to judge whether I like the guy. I guess he did a good job of being a totally unlikeable dickhead.

In other news, my company gives every employee a free turkey every Thanksgiving! That is so totally random and yet cool! How very A Christmas Carol.

In other other news, I was Bender Bending Rodriguez for Halloween and my pictures are here. Halloween was awesome. I danced a lot.

I am speechless.

That's good, right? I see your applause.

The Old Fortran is pretty great.
Nov. 8th, 2007 09:28 pm (UTC)
Yeah, man, that's the detail that gives the whole thing extra MWAH.

Thanks! I knew that if I left it until the last minute I'd never get around to it, just like every other Halloween. So I asked Chris (who was Fry) to do it and it turned out great.

I wonder if that bottle got tossed . . .

You do realize that your Halloween posts are, like, one of my favorite thing of all LiveJournal? I am always so excited for your costume and you never disappoint.

Also, that party was a nerdy dream come true -- Firefly, Futurama, Lebowski...AMAZING.

Glad to here it!

Yeah, it was a much smaller party this year, but the costumes were still fantastic. Hooray for my friends!

Oh, that's genius. You even got his full name.

What did you make the costume out of?
Nov. 8th, 2007 10:11 pm (UTC)
30% lead, 40% titanium, 40% zinc & 40% dolomite.

Thanks! Man, my boyfriend Chris was totally quizzing me before the party. "What is your full name?" "What is your serial number?" "How old are you?" "Where did you go to college?" I'm like, "dude, I don't think anyone at the party is going to ask me any of those questions. Also, I was totally in Robot House in college."

The arms and legs and head were a hooded unitard that I dyed gray. The lines are electrical tape. The antenna is styrofoam that I carved and then painted. The body and footcups were craft foam that I glued and then spraypainted.

I originally was going to use material to make a dress-like thing (using the fabric I used for my gloves and arm puffs) but it didn't hang right so I scrapped it at the last minute. I wish I had listened to Chris and gone with the foam from the beginning, as I would have had a lot more time to make everything look better. Electrical tape sticks to fabric very very well, but not to foam, so I didn't have enough time or black paint to make the lines as nice as I wanted them to be.

Sorry for the long comment! I wanted to include all this explanation in the original post, but I didn't have time yesterday. So thanks for asking.

you are a hideous triumph of form & function.

absolutely brilliant costume!

bruce greenwood plays the unlikable dickhead role well. i don't know how i feel about him as pike, either. not that i really have an opinion on the matter, but with every other announcement i could see where jj abrahms was going (with the exception of karl urban as mccoy, but who knows? it could work well) and thought his choices were pretty inspired. i paused when i read the greenwood article earlier, though,

Yeah, is Karl Urban the dude who was in, like, LoTR and whatnot? That seemed odd to me too. I'm not that familiar with the guy, though.

I think that, at this point (and I guess now that Simon Pegg's in the mix, as well as dude from Harold and Kumar), I think that it has to be funny. Not just character-driven funny, actual jokes funny.

I guess we'll see.
Nov. 9th, 2007 02:25 pm (UTC)
actual jokes funny would be nice. they've never really nailed comedy before.

yeah, that karl urban...mccoy never seemed the beefy/hunky type to me. i've only seen him in LoTR and that pathfinder movie and he was pretty good in that type of role.

and the latest news, have you heard? winona ryder as amanda?

Nov. 9th, 2007 02:36 pm (UTC)
I wish I still had my Amanda/Sarek fingers icon

Also, HOW are they going to get all of these disparate characters in one freaking movie? And on a SHIP? And is Bana still going to be a Romulan? If so, they'd better have a good goddamn reason for it.

Re: I wish I still had my Amanda/Sarek fingers icon
i have no idea. maybe eric bana's romulan is from nimoy-spock's time and he pulls a First Contact and goes back in time to muck up things in the sylar-spock's time frame. who knows? my guess would be that it'll be an alternate timeline kinda deal since j.j. abrams has repeatedly said that he's not changing anything with the canon and i don't see how he can do everything he wants to and not screw things up.

So was that actually beer or your usual whiskey and pepsi?
Nov. 9th, 2007 01:30 pm (UTC)
Jim Beam and Pepsi! I used a funnel.
Nov. 9th, 2007 02:31 am (UTC)
Well that's pretty fucking sweet.
Nov. 9th, 2007 02:20 pm (UTC)
Thank you!
Nov. 9th, 2007 04:39 am (UTC)
That costume is beyond awesome.
Nov. 9th, 2007 02:20 pm (UTC)
Dank u!
Nov. 9th, 2007 04:51 am (UTC)
