Montreal recommendations?

Chris and I rented a house in Alburg, Vermont for a week in December. I'd like to take a day trip up to Montreal: it's only 60 miles away, and I've never been to Canadia.

Does anyone have any recommendations on something to do, or to see, or to eat? Will we be okay not knowing ANY French whatsoever?

Any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks much,
Washu

Quebec is different from Ontario. Quebec speaks French. Street signs generally do not have English on them. I felt silly not knowing any French.

Montreal isn't so extreme, because it's a big city, there is a lot of English. Still, it would be nice to learn a tiny bit of French. Enough to say hello, please, thank you, maybe order your food, simple things to get the conversations started on the right foot.
