See, this morning, as I lay in bed with the AM news radio droning in the background, I had a horrible nightmare that the Republican candidate had been elected governor of New Jersey. And then when I woke up, my pillow was gone!
No but seriously, Chris Christie really did win. And hey, maybe he really will reduce my taxes! And wasteful spending! And corruption! Or maybe he will eliminate programs that I feel are important.
The first thing I did when I got to work was go to his website to confirm his conservative "values." And then I wrote him a letter. Because this is the first time that I, as a grown up, have lived in a state that will be run by an anti-choice politician (Christine Whitman, our last Republican governor, was pro-choice.) And it scares the bejesus out of me. He also, predictably, says he would veto any bill allowing same-sex marriage.
I told him not to kid himself: that he was elected because the citizens of New Jersey are hoping he can reduce our taxes; NOT because of his supposed "values." I reminded him that New Jersey is pro-choice, and implored him to keep his "values" to himself, and allow us to make our own decisions. I also told him that if the New Jersey constitution were amended to define marriage as between a man and a woman, I'd move. I meant it.
He probably won't listen, but it felt good to say it.
Oh and also, apparently the Township for which I do so many reviews has changed hands, from D to R, and we may lose our appointment. Which, honestly, I don't see how I couldn't lose my job. I spend at least half my time (if not more) doing work for that municipality. So there's that. I won't find out for sure until January though. Fingers crossed!
