Okay, listen: True Blood is trash. Yes, I've seen every episode, and yes, now that I have HBO, I'll be seeing every episode as it actually airs. It has its good moments (in particular the Jessica storyline, as everyone has noticed) and excellent characters (Lafayette, natch.) That doesn't make it not trash, me liking it.

But it is getting funnier and funnier (I especially love the vet with PTSD who used to be on Gilmore Girls) and even though I hate (hate!) Sookie and, almost as much, Bill, last night, when Sookie said something about how she keeps expecting Bill to walk in the door and say "Sookie!" I laughed so hard I choked a little bit. How did she know I make fun of him all the time, exactly like that? "Sookie!" Oh god it was so hilarious. I love a show that is self-aware.

It would help if Eric would go back to being more B.A. and less pleading, though. Luckily Pam is picking up his slack.

I don't even think it is trash? I think it is better than that. I mean, it is PULP but I think it is atmospheric & self-aware enough to be labeled "good."

It's really quite excellent is what it is.

When did you convert?

I'm pretty sure I watched it before you. Alicia and I saw the first season around when the second season started airing, which I guess would be a little over a year ago?

Then I actually think it was around the same time; super fun, right?

You know, I watched most of this episode again last night, and I think I might agree with you. Watching the first two seasons made me feel a little dirty, but there's not much to be ashamed of in that episode. So either it's more self-aware now, or it always was but I just didn't believe it.

Goddamn though, that "Sookie!" line cracks me right the fuck up.

And you may even have me coming around on the waitress herself, damn you. She's fucking annoying, but she's not annoying because she's helpless, and that's a hell of a good thing.

I am starting to DESPISE Tara though. All she does is cry and drink and yell at people. BO-RING. I liked her better when all she did was yell at people. Hopefully British McNulty (that's what I call that new vampire (?) dude, because he reminded me of McNulty when he (not McNulty) was on The Tudors) will make her self-confident and interesting again.

And hey -- can vampires enter other vampires' homes without being invited? Because British McNulty was totally snooping around Bill's place. Hmm, at the end of the ep Eric has to have Sookie invite him in, but I don't remember if they were at Sookie's place, or Bill's. And why the hell does Bill have clippings of Sookie winning a spelling bee? And do you think Sookie cheated? SO MANY QUESTIONS.

Oh man, I really like the viral marketing of Jessica's video blog just because there is a thing of her going "Sookeh! Jessicuh!"

Yeah; Sookie ain't like, the paragon of paragon's, but at least she's not useless. I'll forgive a heck of a lot if you are out there DOING something.

Tara is...I can't handle Tara, I hate her. They still count fix her, but damn well they better because who cares about her? Not me.

I think vampire's don't "count" as a living tenant. They were at Sookie's. I think Sookie cheated. I know (potential) answers to your questions, but won't say them.

I hate Bill above all else for the way he says Sookie.

The Charlaine Harris books are pretty much straight-up romance novels with some vampire/werewolf scenery. I think the True Blood crew is trying to make the show as interesting as possible while still roughly following the story from the novels.

The bad news? From here on out the books got even worse.

Wait, did you read them? All of them?

I'm not too worried -- from what I hear Lafayette should be dead by now, but he's AWESOME, so he's not. The overall story arcs are not all that interesting to me, if I think about it . . . it's the individual scenes/lines, anything that's funny, etc etc. Only the Jessica thing is thought-provoking, really. (And maybe whatever is happening with British McNulty.) I could give two shits about dumb Bill being a prisoner in dumb Mississippi. I just like hilarity, mostly. I like clever. I've always been a fan of clever.
