I am immeasurably proud of the people on the plane bound for the White House, which eventually crashed to the ground in Pennsylvania. When we first heard of the crash, that's what I had hoped: that the passengers had overpowered the hijackers, saving possibly thousands at the cost of their own lives. I like to think that it was an almost unanimous decision by the people involved. I like to think that if I had been on the plane, I would have helped too. I am also immeasurably proud of how my country, the press and the public, have handled themselves in the wake of Tuesday's tragedy. I like to think that we are all compassionate and good at heart, and that it is the trivialities and annoyances of everyday life that get in the way of that, that make us irritable and selfish, but that really we all mean well.

I do not pretend to know how we should react to this in terms of retaliation. It's frustrating that the people who did this will find honor in dying at our hands. It's frustrating to be so angry, and at the same time realize that killing thousands of innocent people in another country won't really solve anything.

Anything else I could say has been said over and over again. God Bless America.
