My (faux) adventures in NOLA

I had a wacky dream last week whilst staying at my parents'. I don't remember all of it, and I won't even describe all that which I do remember, because it's confusing and ridiculous, as dreams are wont to be.

Okay, so I think I was in New Orleans. I don't know why I was there in the first place, because every time I saw someone I knew, I was surprised, so I apparently wasn't there to see them.

The first person I encountered was False Leibo. Only two people will know who that is, methinks. False Leibo and I were in a bar which featured a intra-bar transportation system that was like a chair lift, only instead of chairs, there were trapeze bars from which one had to hang, over the heads of the other patrons. This is in fact what I at one time thought a "T-bar" lift was. I haven't been thinking of skiing recently, though, so I don't know why that was in there.

Then I was in a different bar, listening to some people that I was kind of hanging out with, and they mentioned Mambo and I thought, probably correctly, "hey, how many Mambo's can there be? They must mean Mambo!" So I said how I knew Mambo, and lo and behold, eventually he appeared. And we chatted as we are wont to do, and then we made out at the bar a little I think, which was nice.

Then Mambo either disamappeared or didn't talk much for the rest of the dream. And I think MEGA SPY was tending the bar at this point. And someone mentioned Katie Mills, and I thought, "hey, how many Katie Mills's can there be? They must mean the Slick Ninja!" So I said how I knew the Slick Ninja, and lo and behold, eventually she appeared. We didn't make out, though. She reciprocrated my pleasant surprise at our chance meeting, and was my tour guide for the rest of the dream. There's this whole big part with an apartment and abstract art that I can't quite remember, so I'll skip that. Before we were really going to go out for the night, Katie and her friends figured they'd stop by the campus chapel, seeing as how it was almost Christmas Eve and all, or something. So we went to the chapel which was really big and kind of like a lecture hall, but with comfy seats. And the ceremony turned out not to be for Christmas or even Channukah, but for Festivus! With an aluminum pole and all! Tulane DOES rule! Then I woke up.

Today is Thursday. Settlement on the sale of our house is Tuesday. I took the dog for a walk today, and I started to get a little emotional.

So it wasn't until late 2013 that I learned how amazing Ursula K. Le Guin is, and how much I adore her. I have been slow in getting through her…
